Sustainable Community Action:Styles for article names and headings
From Sustainable Community Action
Wikia has fewer linguistic and formatting policies than Wikipedia. This wikia can vary them if good reason is found and if Wikia management does not object.
Here is the opening paragraph of Central Wikia's article Spelling and grammar:
- Cultural clashes over grammar, spelling, and capitalisation/capitalization have been a common experience on Wikipedia, so Wikia is adopting the guidelines that Wikipedia has formulated to deal with this problem. These guidelines basically say that any mainstream usage of English is acceptable, so there is no requirement to use only American or British spelling.
The remainder of that article deals almost exclusively with spelling at the time this was written, but may later be enlarged so is worth checking from time to time.
[edit] Capitalisation
The Wikipedia standard for headings and page names is "sentence case", which means use a capital only for the start except where proper nouns (including official names of organisations) are found.
[edit] Abbreviating "and"
Part of the guideline says "abbreviations of Latin terms like i.e., e.g., or n.b. should be avoided and English terms such as such as, for example, or note used instead". The use of "&" is in the same sort of class, with the additional problem that it has specific uses in URLs and can cause problems in category names, so it is best avoided in headings and page names.
