North America is a continent in the Earth's northern hemisphere and (chiefly) western hemisphere. It is bordered on the north by the Arctic Ocean, on the east by the North Atlantic Ocean, on the southeast by the Caribbean Sea, and on the south and west by the North Pacific Ocean; South America lies to the southeast. It covers an area of about 24,490,000 square kilometers (9,450,000 sq mi), about 4.8% of the planet's surface or about 16.4% of its land area. As of October 2006, its population was estimated at over 514,600,000. It is the third-largest continent in area, following Asia and Africa, and is fourth in population after Asia, Africa, and Europe.
[edit] Share information about . . .[edit] PlacesShare information about places - where you live, work or visit, from local communities to cities, regions, countries and the whole cntinent. (For other countries, continents and the planet itself please see our main Places, projects and networks page.) What information might be relevant to quality of life or wellbeing in each area or community? What challenges or opportunities face the area or community? Impacts of Climate change? Challenges to Environmental, social or economic wellbeing? Transport and Planning challenges? Local sustainability challenges? A good way to start an article is to see if there's an article about the place in Wikipedia, which you can adapt to include material which might be relevant to sustainability. Alternatively build up a list of relevant links. [edit] Projects and networksShare information about any local sustainability projects or networks (both local and non-local) you may be involved with or know about. If you're unsure what information to include, just imagine you're wanting to learn about other projects. What information would you find useful? A good example project page is Kingston Green Fair
