  • Somerset County Council vote to endorse a motion that they become the UK’s first ‘Transition Local Authority’, July 28 [1] Last week, Somerset County Council voted unanimously to endorse a motion that they become the UK’s first ‘Transition Local Authority’. What it means is that SCC could start taking an integrated approach to its planning processes, putting peak oil and climate change at the heart of its forward planning. It may well also unlock funds for the many Transition initiatives emerging across Somerset. topic
  • 60sq mile exclusion zone in Lyme Bay - the first of its kind on this scale in the UK – announced today by Defra, June 19 [4] Lyme Bay is home to around 300 recorded species of plants and animals, including dense populations of the nationally protected pink seafan and the extremely rare sunset coral. As well as a haven for sponges, starfish and coral, the reefs also support a range of seafood animals, including crab, lobster and scallops. [5] topic
