Is there adequate access to a range of healthcare and social care services? Where could access to, or the quality of provision, be improved?
Access to healthcare services is good at primary care level. Social care services are available for the elderly. Access to hospitals is difficult by public transport, and the local hospital is rated as weak in recent inspections.
Do all areas provide a safe and healthy environment to live in?
Yes – there are some problems with ant-social behaviour and East Malling has a slightly higher level of crime, air quality is slightly poorer as a result of the M20 proximity and high use of cars but overall people have a reasonably high life expectancy and crime level s are low. There should be more access to activities for young people to reduce perceived youth problems.
Is a good standard provided by the emergency services?
Overall yes, although ambulance services response times are below national averages.
Is there a good strategy to fight crime and is the community protected? What opportunities are there to improve provision?
T&MBC seems to have good grasp of Crime Levels by Audit and a Strategy to deal with them however money may present a threat. Implementation of a ban on cold calling would make elderly people feel safer.
More activities for young people would reduce fear of anti social behaviour
